Students Celebrate CNN's Call to Earth Day

Yakama Nation Tribal School (YNTS) students recently joined a worldwide effort to protect the environment by participating in CNN's Call to Earth Day. This year's theme focused on raising awareness about the importance of protecting our waterways, from local streams and rivers to the ocean.

Students in the school's aquaculture classes, led by Ms. Carter, helped bring the event to life through educational projects and activities highlighting the importance of healthy waterways and environmental stewardship.

Volunteers from Yakama Nation Fisheries, Fish and Wildlife, Heritage University, the Yakima Basin Environmental Education Program (YBEEP), and the Washington State Department of Ecology joined students to share their knowledge, showcase projects, and encourage a deeper understanding of the role we all play in protecting our natural resources.

A special thank you goes to Safeway and Yakamart for generously donating water and ice to help keep everyone hydrated throughout the day.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world environmental issues while working alongside community partners who share a commitment to protecting our waterways.

Thank you to Ms. Carter, her science students, and all the community partners who helped make this fun and educational day possible!
